NAR says Real Estate Agents are incompetent
The National Association of Realtors (NAR) says that a large number of real estate agents are “untrained, unethical and/or incompetent”.
No surprise to me. I have known that for decades.
Its no secret…
Just read the comments on Active Rain, a large community of real estate agents that blog, ask questions and give their opinions. Many of the comments show lack of understanding, incompetence and no ethics. “Marginal agents” are easy to spot.
Incompetent agents lack important skills.
Incompetent Real Estate Agents do not know the agency laws for their own state, how to read a contract, how to evaluate a home, what is negotiable, the rules of property offers and counteroffers , the difference between clients and customers and what their duties are to the consumer…just to name a few.
Worse yet, many simply don’t care.
Seriously, the average agent is more interested in Social Media and friends on Facebook than putting out an effort to become a knowledgeable professional.
I know that for a fact, because many “marginal agents” are highly critical of the select few agents that pursue advanced real estate education. Why criticize agents with designations (advanced training) that are for sure the smartest of the bunch??
Is that the National Association of Realtors (NAR) are actually the ones coming out with this scathing “Danger Report.”. I am truly surprised that they are willing to admit it! They are finally exposing the truth about real estate agents.
#1 threat to real estate professionals…
NAR, the largest organization of real estate agents in the country is saying that other real estate agents are the real problem. NAR goes on to say that this knowledge gap threatens the credibility of the industry. I say that this is a compelling reason that consumers typically do not like or trust real estate agents.
Reasons why agents are incompetent:
- Little education is needed to get a license. Only 70 hours of class.
- Brokers do not bother to train or supervise agents.
- Advanced education is an effort and can be costly.
- License renewals are too easy…just pay the fee and text through a class.
- Brokerages care about quantity of agents, not quality; they hire anyone breathing.
Why are agents unethical?
- Because they can get by with it.
- Everyone is doing it, so no big deal.
- Brokers don’t care what their agents do.
- Money takes priority over ethical behavior.
- Punishment is almost non-existent.
NAR goes on to say : “Masses of marginal agents” are threatening the industry—that is, unskilled salespeople who lack the experience to coach buyers and sellers.” According to NAR’s report, “The real estate industry is saddled with a large number of part-time, untrained, unethical and/or incompetent agents.” Consumers need to avoid them.
Advice for buyers and sellers:
Smart consumers need to pick their agents carefully. Sellers need to scrutinize who they list their property with and home buyers need to be aware of who is not working for them. Be aware that Transaction Brokers offer NO LOYALTY. Buyers need to hire a Buyers Broker because your agent selection is most important to your emotional well being and your wallet.
