About the park

Wekiva Springs Homes for Sale

Wekiwa Springs State Park is a 7000-acre nature preserve just 20 minutes north of downtown Orlando off of Interstate 4. It’s near Altamonte Springs and Longwood and contains the headwater of the Wekiva River. It’s also one of the headquarters of one of the state five AmeriCorps Florida State Park chapters. The main attraction is the spring itself providing approximately 42 million gallons of water to the Wekiva River every day. There are several swimming areas and a cavern at the source of the spring which extends deeper into a large cave but scuba diving and cave exploring is strictly prohibited due to safety issues.

The park has a nature center, picnic pavilions with barbecue grills, canoe rental services, and four campsites that can be accessed only by canoe or kayak. However, spread out across the park are several fairly substantial camping areas to support all types of camping from tents to recreational vehicles. There’s also youth camping areas, primitive, and family camping sites and pets are allowed. There are dozens of trails throughout the park perfect for hiking, biking, and even horseback riding.

Wekiva or Wekiwa?

There is some discrepancy on the spelling of the name. Wekiva Springs is a small community southeast of the park where is the park itself is spelled Wekiwa. The Wekiva River Buffer Conservation area is located just north of Wekiva Springs (the community). Although the springs are spelled with a W, the river and most subdivisions and streets in Seminole County use the Wekiva spelling. Wekiwa is the Creek word for spring but contrary to popular belief, Wekiva actually means flowing water and is an alternate spelling used by developers.

Real Estate

Most real estate in Wekiva Springs is surrounding Lake Brantley. Wekiva Springs Road is easily accessible West off of Interstate 4. From there, most of the homes are in subdivisions and neighborhoods bordering the lake and just south of the park itself.

Several neighborhoods do have their own homeowner association and just a few are in gated communities. The Village on the Green is a retirement community off of Subal Palm Drive south and the largest gated community is the Springs, a 24-hour guard gated neighborhood with its own spring that runs through the neighborhood. This community features a clubhouse, basketball and tennis courts, or stables, jogging trails, and more primarily built in the mid-1970s. These homes range from about $230,000-$450,000.
